The origins of Balagurukulam lie in the story of our founder and managing trustee, Ranjith. As an eleven-year-old boy Ranjith developed a strong awareness and compassion for the poor, needy and deprived. Ranjith was constantly touched by the devastation caused by numerous droughts, floods and cyclones that destroyed many villages and even washed away a bus carrying many women and children. During his age of 12, many child labors were dead and injured in a fire cracker accident in his own village Sivakasi. He came to know about this incident through his school teachers and they made an announcement to help them out. Ranjith as a young soul, he collected around 110 kgs of rice and old clothes within 5 hours. This left his school teachers in great element of surprise. Later Ranjith self-analyzed the situation and realized that those children would have been alive if they were being into school for education. He started his journey under the guidance and shadow of Dr. M.S.Udayamoorthy.

Recognizing the importance of water wealth and management. In 1991, Ranjith and Dr. M.S.Udayamoorthy organized South Indian Rivers Interlinking Conference in Mylapore, which was inaugurated by Vidya Charan Shukla, G. K. Moopanar and actor Cho Ramaswamy.

In 1993, started rally from Aazhiyaar Athikadavu Thittam, Coimbatore to many villages reaching the farmers to create water wealth awareness program among them. By walking they made a journey for 620 kms. Also, he worked on Narimanam project for 3 months. It was these experiences that led Ranjith to commit himself to the service of the poor especially women and children under his care. They were provided with food, shelter and education.

At the age of 25, Ranjith started the Balagurukulam home for the abandoned children. This was a huge step at such an early stage. Ranjith ultimately plans to provide shelter to nearly 300 children under the wings of Balagurukulam.

Balagurukulam was started in the year 2000 with the primary aim of providing abandoned and deprived children with adequate shelter, food, medical facilities, and education. With the hope that one-day these children will be able to stand on their own feet, making them independent, responsible and respectable citizens of the country. It presently houses 50 children, with every child getting a mother, brothers and sisters to look after them. That’s not all! Balagurukulam children also undergo yoga, meditation and regular health check-ups to keep them fit, strong and healthy.

Our Social Motto

There is a purpose behind every person’s birth. One should utilize his/her knowledge and efforts not only for his/her own growth but also contribute a little for the growth of the deprived ones, by which way one can give real meaning to their birth. Life is short, let us make it meaningful and purposeful.

Let us all join and work together to up bring these less fortunate children of the society as good citizens of tomorrow and thus build a strong and peaceful world.

Our Mission & Vision

Our mission is that each and every person has got social responsibility and especially those persons who had an opportunity to get better education and living conditions, they should extend a helping hand to those less fortunate people who are very much below in the society and show light to their lives so that these less fortunate children can also get an opportunity to lead a happy and peaceful life and thus bring down the social imbalance which is the root cause for the current day turmoil in the society.

This social imbalance is the root cause for increasing criminal, anti-social and anti-national activities where these less fortunate children of the society are made scapegoats and victims because of want of opportunity to come up in life, If these children are shown light they too can lead a decent living and become good citizens.

These objectives can be achieved only if educated and elite people take the responsibility and lead the path for these abandoned children of the society.

With this objective in view, this Balagurukulam was started. Our mission and vision is to make people all over the world to participate in this noble cause and thus contribute to bring down the social imbalance in the society which ultimately bring in peace in the society.
